The unhurried itinerary

Three days,
lightly held.

Udaipur rewards a little space between plans. Start before the heat, retreat over lunch, and save late afternoons for the lakes.

3 ideal daysOct–Mar coolest season2–3 km walkable old city

Day one

Palaces & the old city

Begin with the grand view, end at the water’s edge.
  1. City Palace

Arrive early for cool courtyards, mosaic rooms and Lake Pichola views.

  2. Jagdish Temple & lanes

Walk down through the old city; pause for a slow lunch and miniature-painting ateliers.

  3. Gangaur Ghat

Watch the façades turn honey-gold, then cross to Bagore Ki Haveli for the evening.

Day two

Gardens, lakes & golden hour

A softer day built around water and changing light.
  1. Saheliyon-ki-Bari

Fountains, marble elephants and a quiet garden start before the city warms up.

  2. Fateh Sagar Lake

Take the long promenade, stop for chai, and leave time to simply sit by the lake.

  3. Lake Pichola boat ride

Choose the late-afternoon sailing for Jag Mandir and the city’s best silhouettes.

Day three

Hills, craft & a longer horizon

Trade the centre for the Aravallis and Udaipur’s living craft traditions.
  1. Ahar Cenotaphs

A calm field of carved chhatris, best experienced before the middle of the day.

  2. Shilpgram

Meet regional craft, textiles and performance traditions at the rural arts complex.

  3. Sajjangarh

Climb to the Monsoon Palace for a wide sunset over the lakes and hills.

Schedules and ticket rules can change. Confirm same-day opening times and reserve sunset activities in advance.

Where to stay

Choose your
version of Udaipur.

01

Best for first visits

Old City / Lal Ghat

Walk to the palace, ghats and cafés. Atmospheric and lively, with narrow lanes that favour light luggage.

02

Best for romance

Lake Pichola’s west bank

The iconic splurge: polished palace hotels, boat arrivals and water views away from the old-city bustle.

03

Best for quiet

Fateh Sagar

More breathing room, easy lakeside mornings and a calmer base—still a short ride from the historic centre.

Landmark stays

For the full palace fantasy, compare Taj Lake Palace, The Oberoi Udaivilas and The Leela Palace Udaipur. Book direct and confirm transfers before arrival.

Before you arrive

The useful bits.

Just enough planning to make the city feel easy once you are there.

01

When to go

October through March brings bright days and cooler nights. July through September is lush and atmospheric, with humidity and rain.

02

Getting in

Maharana Pratap Airport is outside the city. Pre-arrange a hotel car or taxi; allow extra time around peak traffic.

03

Getting around

Walk the old city, then use autos or app cabs for the lakes and hills. Large cars struggle in the narrow historic lanes.

04

Temple etiquette

Dress with shoulders and knees covered, remove shoes where requested, and ask before photographing worshippers or interiors.

05

Money & booking

UPI is widespread, but carry some cash. Book palace hotels, performances and sunset tables early in high season.

06

Pack for the light

Bring sun protection, a light layer after dark, comfortable shoes and a refillable bottle. Hydrate more than you think.

उदयपुर

Come for the palaces.
Remember the light.
